Anesthesia & Resuscitation
A specialised working group of NSA Luxembourg dedicated to representing, supporting and advancing the interests of anaesthesia and resuscitation nursing students across the Grand Duchy.
Bridging students & professionals
The Anesthesia Commission is one of five specialised commissions within NSA Luxembourg. It operates as a working subgroup of the Managing Board, blending qualified anaesthesia nurses with current students from the University of Luxembourg's BSc programme.
The commission serves as the primary link between anaesthesia nursing students and the profession — identifying challenges in clinical placements, advocating for fair training conditions, and building connections with hospital anaesthesia departments and professional bodies.
With the university-level anaesthesia specialisation still relatively new in Luxembourg (launched in 2023), the commission plays a vital role in ensuring the programme's early graduates have a collective voice to shape the future of their profession.
The Team
Qualified professionals and current students working together for anaesthesia nursing.
Commission Goals
Student Representation
Ensure anaesthesia nursing students have a collective voice in discussions with the university, hospitals, and professional organisations about training quality and clinical placement conditions.
IVS Recognition
Advocate for the formal recognition of the "Infirmier en Voie de Spécialisation" (IVS) status in hospital settings, clarifying the role of student nurses in specialisation during their clinical rotations.
Fair Remuneration
Push for equitable and harmonised financial support for students in specialisation, addressing the disparities in internship compensation across different hospital institutions.
Professional Networking
Build bridges between current students, recently qualified CRNAs, and experienced professionals to create a support network spanning all career stages in anaesthesia nursing.
Knowledge Sharing
Organise educational events, study groups, and peer-to-peer mentoring sessions to supplement the university curriculum and prepare students for clinical challenges.
Programme Feedback
Collect and structure student feedback on the BSc Anesthesia & Resuscitation programme to provide constructive input to the University of Luxembourg for continuous improvement.
Completed Missions
Official IVS Proposal to Hospital Directions
Submitted a formal proposal to all major hospital groups in Luxembourg requesting the creation and recognition of the "Infirmier en Voie de Spécialisation" (IVS) title on badges and identification systems.
Documentation of Internship Compensation Disparities
Gathered evidence of unequal internship remuneration practices across Luxembourg's hospitals and compiled a dossier submitted to the Ministry of Health to support calls for harmonisation.
Letter to the Minister of Health (M3S)
Co-authored a formal letter addressed to the Minister for Health and Social Security, raising concerns about the disappearance of the remuneration agreement for specialisation students since the transfer to university-level training.
Integration of IVS in FHL Collective Agreement
Working with OGBL Santé and hospital federations to incorporate the IVS status into the Convention Collective FHL, ensuring equitable conditions for all nursing students in specialisation.
Student Feedback Framework for BSc Programme
Developing a structured feedback mechanism to collect student input on the Anesthesia & Resuscitation bachelor programme and relay constructive proposals to the University of Luxembourg.
Anaesthesia Nursing in Luxembourg
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA / IADE) is a specialised nursing professional trained to provide anaesthesia care across the perioperative continuum — from preoperative assessment through intraoperative management to post-anaesthesia recovery.
In Luxembourg, anaesthesia nursing education was historically provided by the LTPS (now ENSA). Since September 2023, the programme has transitioned to the Université du Luxembourg as a 4-semester Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Anesthesia & Resuscitation), accepting a maximum of 15 students per cohort.
CRNAs work in operating theatres, intensive care units, emergency departments, and pain management clinics. Their scope of practice includes airway management, regional anaesthesia, haemodynamic monitoring, pharmacological management, and acute crisis response.
